Caring for our community that is most impacted by Trump’s presidency
By Maggie Block
While I believe that all working people in this country, if not the world, will feel negative ramifications from the policy and legislation Donald Trump and his cronies are going to unleash upon us all, we all know that some members of our communities have already been directly targeted by the hateful executive orders.
One of those groups is undocumented immigrants. We have all seen the videos of ICE raids terrorizing people across our country. And for those who have been doing active anti-deportation work for years, they are seeing even more terror happening to our community members once detention begins.
Community care needs to be focused on supporting and protecting undocumented members of our community. One group that has been doing that work for years, and was founded and is led by undocumented Washingtonians, is La Resistencia.
It has been an honor to partner with La Resistencia and publish stories or their members inside the Northwest Detention Center that have been collected by students of UW’s Center for Human Rights.
And I’m hoping our support of their work can go a little bit further. I hope we can get some of our followers to offer La Resistencia support and care that they need now more then ever. To start make sure you’re following La Resistencia so you don’t miss out on what they’re working on, you can find them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & TikTok.
There are a few places you can support their work right now. First, you can always donate to support their vital work.
Right now La Resistencia is camping outside of the Northwest Detention, and they are asking for donations of chairs and canopies.
March 1 is Solidarity Day at the Northwest Detention Center, starting at 1pm. Come ready to make noise, and you could even bring your favorite things to make noise with.
