Submit your book for publication
Hinton Publishing’s Submission Policy
Please read in full before submitting
Thank you for your interest in publishing with Hinton. Our imprint accepts submissions from both emerging and established writers regardless of whether or not they have agents. We aim to publish several books a year, spanning multiple genres.
While we consider all Pacific Northwest-based authors, we prioritize works by Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQIA+ authors, as well as authors belonging to communities that have been historically disregarded by the publishing industry.
We cast a wide net in looking for engrossing books that provoke, inform, entertain, challenge, inspire, and fascinate. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are as a writer, if your story captivates us, we’ll consider publishing it.
This includes novels, memoirs, nonfiction, science-fiction, fantasy, young adult, middle-grade, poetry, and essay collections.
Most importantly, we are looking for work that can potentially endure beyond the flavor of the moment. Books written solely to capitalize on popular trends are probably a better fit elsewhere.
We will consider both non-fiction and memoir based on a proposal. All other genres will be considered based on a submitted manuscript.
Our aim is to develop lasting relationships with our authors and make the publishing experience as seamless as possible for them. We also hope to aid our writers in developing their voice, writing skills, and platform. Given that, we do expect our authors to be willing to promote their books on multiple mediums.
Although we cannot respond to every submission quickly, every author submitting a manuscript or proposal can expect a response within three to six months. Whether your first time or one-hundredth time, we know submitting work to any publisher is a big deal. We value your time, effort, and courage!
