Join us for Voices of Resistencia!

The amount of vitriol and condemnation currently hurled at our immigrant communities is infuriating. Migrants to this country are frequently cast as scapegoats for every social ill under the sun. In a playback as old as time, it’s far easier to point to “them” as the catalyst for our troubles, than acknowledge that they are “us.”

They are friends, mentors, tutors, teachers, artists, and vital members contributing to the fabric of our communities. Much too often their voices are muffled and their stories are censured. With each replaced by misconceptions and problemattic narratives. It’s why we are beyond honored to be a community partner in presenting Voices of Resistencia: A Theatrical Tribute to Those Lost to Deportation.

This theatrical reading will feature the stories of community members deported through King County’s airport, Boeing Field, over the past year. Each story is made possible by La Resistencia’s tireless support in the fight against detention and deportation. UW Center for Human Rights students spent countless hours gathering these stories in Seattle, at the Northwest Detention Center, and through phone interviews with those who were forcibly removed from the United States. The stories shared at the event will recognize the resilience and strength of our local immigrant community, acknowledge the systemic barriers they navigate, and most importantly, showcase their voice in telling their story.

We invite you to come together as a community to honor these voices, to bear witness to their journeys, and to advocate for a more just and compassionate world.
