Big things on the Horizon!
Our first book is coming out in March!
Our first book, which is truly fantastic and I am so happy to help put into the world, Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist, by Reagan E J Jackson is available for pre-order now! This collection of Jackson’s journalistic writings looks at issues of universal importance, such as BLM, gentrification, racialized body image, from a Black Feminist Seattleite’s perspective.
We’re launching a Literary ePublication!
We are launching Speak the Sojourner, a monthly literary ePublication! It will always feature a longer piece (such as a short story or dramatic narrative), a short piece (such as flash fiction or poetry), and a piece of original visual art inspired by the longer piece of writing. We are excited to create this opportunity for PNW creatives to publish, and for avid readers to get new totally original writings every month!
Youth empowerment programming!
In response to the regressive book and curriculum bans that are passing across the country Hinton Publishing is starting multiple educational initiatives to empower young people to learn real history, and choose books going into publication.
In partnership with the Seattle Public Library we will
be starting a Youth Historians program the Fall of 2024, where we will give young people the tools they need to learn their own history here the Puget Sound region. We hope to create a curriculum that can be replicated across the country.
Further, we are creating publishing internships for high school and college aged young people. The interns will be reading submissions and making recommendations for publications, as well as curating their own issues of Speak the Sojourner!
Our aim is to facilitate youth work that will be the antidote to book bans!
