Welcome to the first-ever Hinton newsletter!

Every month we’ll be showcasing authors, stories, and events that elevate the narratives of those belonging to historically underinvited communities. Despite what you might have read or heard elsewhere, those communities remain largely ignored, disregarded, and maligned.

Yet, it is most often the stories flowing from these communities that paint a more holistic picture of the human condition. They reveal the power dynamics that dehumanize us, truths that owe us no comfort, and the dangers of leaving dominant narratives unchallenged.

They also remind us that the most powerful stories, those of an overcoming people, of life’s unexamined possiblities, and of legacies awaiting acknowledgement, must never be surrendered. The story of my grandfather Lenny Hinton is one such story (which you can read more about here). For years, his story was reduced to a tale of a writer whose work was stolen and whose name lost to time. But now his reclaimed legacy is the story that birthed Hinton, a place where authors whose work is routinely diminished, can now have it championed.

We thank you for your support and look forward to writing the story of Hinton together!

In gratitude,

Marcus Harrison Green
