Our books keep getting picked!
By Maggie Block
We only choose to publish books we think need to be put out into the world. So we know Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist by Reagan E J Jackson, and Three Alarm Fire by Juan Carlos Reyes, are phenomenal. However, it’s always nice to know others appreciate what we’ve been work so hard on! We’re very pleased that our local NPR station and alternative news magazine also see how special our first two books are.
KUOW has chosen Three Alarm Fire as its January book club pick! KUOW’s book club host Katie Campbell, will be interviewing Juan Carlos Reyes for a digital release, and will be diving deep into our book in the book club’s newsletter. Sign up for the newsletter now so you don’t miss a thing! And if you can try and read through your copy of Three Alarm Fire by January 27, you’ll be ready to engage with all of Katie’s book club content as it comes out!
The Stranger included Still True in their Best Books Out of the PWN This Year article! We are incredibly grateful to the author Katie Lee Ellison, and appreciate the recognition among so many other fantastic titles. With an immense amount of love, we’d like to challenge the framing that Still True is for white people. I, a white person, totally agree with Ellison that Still True is a book that taught me a lot. I further agree that white Seattleites should read it, I think everyone should learn what Reagan’s writing teaches. However, this was a book that was written for Reagan’s Black Southend community. Also, as an alternative paring with the novel might we suggest a shot of Bourbon, with whatever combo you prefer from Habesha Cafe?
